Cooking Groove Acid Jazz

About Us

Jambalaya 37 is a band of organic grooves, acid jazz and dance music, coming from Turin, Italy. They are a four piece band or a quartet, with trombone played by Gabriele Biei, keys by Gilberto Bonetto, bass and vocals by Dario Balmas and drums by Alessandro Raise.

In December 2017 Jambalaya 37 released their latest EP "Cooking Groove" of five original songs, described as innovative, imaginary and inspiring organic grooves made with soul, pop and jazz as the main ingredients. The band plays live in jazz clubs and outdoor festivals frequently, in places like Santeria Social Club in Milan and Roccafestival near Parma. The band and their music is gaining airplays on radio shows such as ScreamRadio 'Disco Rosso' and TRS Radio.

Jambalaya 37 was born a little over ten years ago, from an idea inspired by Dario's trip to New Orleans. Like the typical dish of Louisiana, jambalaya, which is a fusion of different food cultures of emigrants in the USA, the band members come from different genres and artistic backgrounds, bringing in multiple ingredients and spices to this delicious soup we know as Jambalaya 37.

Since the very beginning the band has attracted attention of music lovers and professionals alike. The band was awarded some prestigious prizes, including a Demo Jazz Award 2010 by RAI, the Italian broadcasting company, as well as the first prize at the Milleluci Festival 2010 by M.E.I., a major event for Italian independent artists.

Highlights of their musical journey include a live performance with a famous Italian trumpet player Fabrizio Bosso in Sanremo Festival in 2011. Jambalaya 37 were representing their country when they played in an "Italians in the World" concert in Kampala, Uganda, in 2012, organised by Italian Embassy.

During their career, Jambalaya 37 has supported many international artists and bands, playing in the same concerts with some great names including Incognito, Winton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Orchestra, and New York Ska Jazz Ensemble. They have also performed with many famous Italian artists, such as Bollani and Rava Duo, Roy Paci, and Almamegretta.

Next up for Jambalaya 37 is to release more new music in 2018, as well as keep busy playing in live shows in Italy and neighbouring countries. The band is looking at opportunities to be discovered by new fans all over the world, and playing their great music for the fans to love and enjoy.
